We live in a fast moving world which coax us to forget our roots and absorb new culture. Despite being adaptive and gullible we should never forget our lineage. Through the millions of passed down stories our ancestors taught us of heritage and culture, we comprehend the best. Fashion, being an ever changing trend, repeats itself decades later where we take inspirations from our elders and  predecessor with a hint of innovation to keep our curtains contemporary. Old is gold and India being so diverse and rich in tradition still warms our heart with bygone crowning fashion trends. The latest Indian trend that had a major comeback last year is ‘Anarkali Fashion’. The long flowing Kurta and tight Chudidar/ Legging has been spotted in major authentic showrooms in various colors, fabrics and design. I had to look for a perfect piece in 3 different shops and spotted it the most unexpected place: Colaba. I wear Indian Suits and Dresses very occasionally since its a pain to carry the entire outfit gracefully in a sweating city like Mumbai unless I am attending a wedding or some traditional function.

Anarkali Style

We all are aware that the Anarkali style has been in rage for the past few months and is available in various colors, fabrics, designs and trends. The suits can range from as low as INR 1000 and go above INR 30,000. As I mentioned earlier I do not prefer Indian Outfits for regular work days since it leaves me feeling too ‘draped’ for Mumbai weather but I love it for occasional moments. The Bright fuchsia Anarkali suit I grabbed is from a shop known as ‘Rosewood’ which I discovered during my Colaba street shopping stroll. I love the color against my pale skin and the price tag of this dress. This dress costed me around INR 1500 which I feel is very budget friendly for the rare Indian weddings and functions I get to attend due to my daily hectic routine.

Key to carry your Indianized Outfit well:

1) Opt for contrasting patterns and colors your skin tone can pull off. Stick to Black when in doubt!

2) If you are wearing bright and heavy work suit/ sari, keep your accessories simple as you don’t want to jeopardize your entire outfit.

3) For a classy look opt for bangels and watch on your one arm and wear your hair in a knotted bun or low messy side bun.

4) Keep it simpler during the day time or your outfit will end up screaming ‘Look-At-Me’.

5) If you your dress/ Sari is very simple accessorize with heavy neck piece and earring along with a good eye makeup for the perfect night look!

6) In case you have handiwork/ any sort of standing-out design near your neckline, avoid wearing any neck-piece as it will either take the attention off the design or create too much of confusion.

Balance is the key to success!

Dress up well this wedding season and keep it stylish.

Xoxo!

  1. It’s exceptionally awesome!! Nice art work near neck. Cloth material looks like hakoba selection.
